Our group experience is in anaerobic fermentation mainly in, rumen silage and lactic fermentation in the preservation of milk. Our research is applied and we have developed some procedures that are used in the industry.
ANAEROBIC FERMENTATION OF MOLASSES, MANURE AND UREA FOR CATTLE FEEDING.
The objective of these project was to show a modification of the rumen fermentation. The modification was made with the anaerobic fermentation of manure, urea and sugar cane molasses mixed with ground corn stalk, into the diet.
The modification of the rumen fermentation influence the patterns of volatile fatty acids (V. F. A.) and the diet efficiency. The fermentation of cattle manure with sugar cane molasses urea and water was optimized to produce gluconeogenic acids (lactic and propionic acids) as the main end products of the fermentation.
Several parameters were tested, temperature C/N relationship, molasses concentration , manure and manure storage. With the final conditions a pilot plant was design. To make an animal fed with 20% of the optimized manure fermentation, 80% of sugar cane molasses 850 Brix with 2% of urea. this mixture was absorbed in ground corn stalks in a relation (4: l) (mixture/corn stalks) and ensiled for 15 days before used. The characteristics of the final product was: crude protein 12-15 %, fat 0.5 – 1.0 %, CHO 61.0-62.0 %, crude fiber 14.2-15.3, ash 11.0-12.0%, humidity 23.0-25.0%; digestibility protein 76.23 +- 2.05, fat 46.29 +- 9.38, fiber 45.65 +- 6.07, CHO 81.73 +- 1.74. Energy characteristics: TND 69.5, ED 3.08 Mcal/Kg, EM 2.53 Mcal/Kg, NE 1.62 Mcal/Kg, NEg 1.15 Mcal/Kg, NEL 1.60 Mcal/Kg. Biochemical characteristics: pH 5.0 to 5.3, Lactobacilli 1 x 106 to 1 X 109, lactic acid 1.0-2.0 %. The product in artificial bovine saliva 10% w/w and placed a 40° C produce 134 Mmol of lactic acid and 60 Mmol AGV in 24 hours.
